Every data story on this site follows the same rules, so you can judge the work, not just the conclusion.
Public sources only
The data comes from public publishers: the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the IRS, the CDC, the World Bank and others. Each story credits each publisher exactly as the publisher asks.
Every number checked
Before a number goes up, I check it against the publisher’s own table. Each story lists at least three checks and what they found.
Sources, method, checks and limits, every time
Each story starts with the answer in one sentence, then shows the hypothesis, the findings, the chart, how the data came together, the checks, and what the numbers can’t tell you.
All code on GitHub
The SQL and Python behind each story go on GitHub, so anyone can rerun the work.
Places, not parties
The stories compare places and measures. They don’t score parties or candidates.
Built with help, checked by me
I write the code with help from Claude Code, an AI coding assistant, and I check every number against the original publisher.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell me. I’ll fix it and note the correction on the story.
